Acting responsibly is in Our Corporate DNA.

It’s at the heart of Morrison’s vision and values, as well as that of our parent company, Compass Group. Our commitment to the health of patients and the planet is reflected through scores of initiatives designed to reduce energy and water consumption, support greener practices and build a sustainable future together.

WASTE NOT PLATFORM.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) distinguishes stopping food waste at the source as the most basic way to begin tackling the global food waste problem. Understanding the role we play in contributing to better population and planet health, our leadership made Waste Not, Morrison Healthcare’s tool for tracking and measuring food waste, a mandated priority at all hospitals in which we serve.

The Waste Not tool is web-based and allows our foodservice teams to track waste at the most granular level possible. So while we do our best to rescue food from landfills through our food recovery programs, we are also doing our part to stop food waste at the source. Doing the right thing by people and planet also saves hauling, production and food cost – a win-win for everyone.

FOOD RECOVERY PROGRAMS.

Every year, 40% of all food produced is wasted. Meanwhile, one in seven Americans is food insecure, totally unable to access nutritious meals like the ones we serve and enjoy daily. Sometimes reducing surplus food is unavoidable, but to stop food waste and help nourish the hungry in our communities, we donate surplus food to non-profits who distribute it to those in need. Food recovery programs deepen our relationship with community members, our clients, and our own associates while saving money and reducing waste.

IMPERFECTLY DELICIOUS PRODUCE.

Imperfectly Delicious Produce (IDP) is a program that rescues produce with slight cosmetic imperfections that would otherwise be left either un-harvested or tossed out. IDP is perfectly nutritious, delicious, and perfectly safe for the patients, guests, and staff we serve to enjoy.

Waste Reduction.

As the leader in healthcare foodservice, we understand the opportunity and responsibility we have to positively impact our food system and environment. Our waste reduction platform includes strategies to reduce waste at the source, raise awareness, and promote solutions that positively impact the areas and people who live where we operate.
