Morrison Healthcare Clients Recognized for Sustainability Efforts
The Business Intelligence Group has recognized specific sustainability initiatives at Cleveland Clinic, Hackensack Meridian Health and UCI Health, where Morrison Healthcare leads and manages foodservice, as part of its 2023 Sustainability Awards program.
The annual awards honor people, teams and organizations who have made sustainability an integral part of their business practice or overall mission. Morrison’s foodservice teams closely partner with these organizations on initiatives to reach sustainability goals.
The recognitions include:
- Cleveland Clinic’s Taco Shoppe won Sustainability Product of the Year for its focus on plant-based protein. From January 1st, 2023, to June 30th, 2023, the concept sold 22,520 total entrées (tacos, bowls, salads). From those sales, more than 30 percent was from the plant-based protein.
- Hackensack Meridian Health won Sustainability Initiative of the Year for its efforts to decrease antibiotic resistance. Since 2022, the system has proudly increased its use of antibiotic free meat pounds by 15 percent, to an average total of 57 percent. The system also decreased its meat GHG emissions by 8 percent, and overall meat spend by 5 percent. With a focus also on locally sourcing, Hackensack Meridian Health increased its sustainable/local spend by 6 percent, to an average total of 25 percent.
- UCI Health won Sustainability Initiative of the Year for its culinary sustainability initiatives which include promotion of plant-based meals, waste reduction, recycling efforts such as eliminating plastic, and food donations (in 2022 UCI Health donated 3,500lb of food).
