New features include prepay self-service kiosks that allow guests to pay before selecting their food, helping streamline the checkout process and support a faster grab-and-go experience. The café also offers evolving menus with fresh, diverse dining options that reflect changing preferences and current food trends.
According to Jennifer Crawford, Chief Nursing Officer at Berkeley Hospital, the new café reinforces the organization’s commitment to supporting the overall healthcare experience, recognizing that comfort, convenience, and hospitality play an important role alongside clinical care.
A Milestone in a Long-Standing Partnership
The opening of the Berkeley Hospital café is especially meaningful because it coincides with a significant anniversary: 20 years of partnership between Morrison Healthcare and Roper St. Francis Healthcare. Since 2006, the organizations have collaborated to elevate dining, hospitality, and service experiences across the health system through innovation, quality, and operational excellence
Over the past two decades, the partnership has introduced a variety of innovative solutions, including the nation’s first Amazon Just Walk Out-enabled, 24-hour, full-service hospital coffee shop and Morrison’s recently launched patient menu program featuring restaurant-quality meals. These initiatives reflect a shared commitment to enhancing the experiences of patients, visitors, and healthcare teammates.
“The opening of the Berkeley Hospital café reflects the spirit of innovation and partnership that has defined our relationship with Roper St. Francis Healthcare for the past 20 years,” said Keith Evans, Morrison Healthcare System Director of Food and Nutrition. “Together, we’ve remained focused on creating exceptional experiences for patients, visitors and teammates, and we’re excited to continue investing in new ideas and solutions for years to come.”
Supporting a Growing Community
Berkeley Hospital opened in 2019 as Berkeley County’s first full-service hospital in 45 years. Rapid growth throughout Goose Creek, Summerville, and surrounding communities has fueled continued investment in the campus, culminating in the completion of a major expansion that added more than 300,000 square feet of new and renovated space, increased bed capacity, and expanded access to advanced healthcare services.
As Morrison Healthcare and Roper St. Francis Healthcare begin their third decade of partnership, both organizations remain focused on delivering innovative solutions that enhance every touchpoint of the healthcare experience while advancing their shared mission of serving patients and communities with excellence.
