National Seafood Month is a time to celebrate the United States’ leadership in sustainable seafood practices and seafood culture. What does this mean for Morrison Healthcare?
It means that we understand that to promote the health of our patients, staff and caregivers, where our food and products come matters. Morrison Healthcare is committed to ethical sourcing, farm animal welfare, sustainable fish & seafood, and diverse partnerships to build a better future. With interest in procuring sustainable food in healthcare is rising, we work with our partners to meet the needs of our clients and while influencing the market.
Who are our partners?
Morrison is proud to partner with the Faroe Islands to procure sustainable seafood. Few nations in the world are as closely tied to the sea as the Faroe Islands. Ocean resources are the foundation of the Faroese economy and culture, and conserving them for future generations is the top priority for Faroese authorities and industry. They view safeguarding these resources as more than a major responsibility – it is an absolute necessity.
What is the impact?
In addition to biological sustainability, social sustainability is a significant part of fisheries and aquaculture policy in the Faroe Islands. A principal objective of the policy is that the ocean’s resources should benefit Faroese society and create jobs across the islands. For Morrison Healthcare, these efforts directly relate to establishing governance, standards and programs that minimize the impact of sourcing on natural ecosystems including preventing overfishing and biodiversity loss.
