Silver Cross Nutrition Services Manager’s Comic Book Donations Provide Super Times for Young Patients
Posted: 09/18/2025Silver Cross Hospital Manager of Nutrition Services Nicholas Mosz figures he was about five years old when he got hooked on comic books. Now, after nearly 35 years of collecting, he’s helping kids and teens pass the time while they’re patients at the 348-bed hospital in New Lenox. Mosz has donated some 70 comic books, and they’re always appreciated by patients. While he used to deliver them himself, his expanded role overseeing food services for patients and visitors keeps him busy in the Nutrition Services Department.

Lunch Recipes: Sesame Ginger Noodle Salad
Posted: 09/18/2025One of the nation’s largest healthcare food service providers, Morrison Healthcare, announced earlier this year a totally revamped patient menu with over 300 entrees, with one-third of the menu being plant-based options. This plant-forward recipe for a Sesame Ginger Noodle Salad was developed by Morrison Healthcare’s Chef Jillian Marino, RD, LD, as part of the company’s Burst of Learning series.

New York City Bans Processed Meats, Overhauls Food Standards
Posted: 09/18/2025Starting next summer, updated Food Standards in New York City will introduce new restrictions on artificial colors, additives, and preservatives; expand access to more nutritious snacks and plant-based whole foods; and eliminate processed meats. That means foods like sausages, chicken nuggets, and hamburgers are permanently off the menu. The updated standards will apply to more than 219 million meals and snacks served each year across 11 city agencies, from public schools to hospitals, senior centers, and shelters.

Roper St. Francis opens Amazon AI-powered market
Posted: 09/17/2025Roper St. Francis Healthcare has opened its second Palmetto Market, a café and retail shop, where artificial intelligence will run the show. According to a news release, the market in Roper St. Francis Berkeley Hospital’s medical office building will be powered by Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology. The AI-powered system allows customers to grab what they need without waiting in line to check out.

Hospital launches 1st barista-staffed cafe powered by Amazon
Posted: 09/17/2025Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital in Charleston had a grand opening Aug. 25 for the new market using Amazon’s Just Walk Out platform, which enables employees and visitors to pay for items by scanning a debit or credit card (or their badges) when they enter instead of visiting a cash register on the way out. While other health systems are using the tech, Roper St. Francis said it’s the first to deploy it at a coffee shop staffed by baristas.

Charter House in Rochester puts on lemonade stand to raise funds for Walk to End Alzheimer’s
Posted: 09/08/2025Staff at the Mayo Clinic Charter House put together a lemonade stand fundraiser on Thursday, September 4th, to raise funds for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s that will take place in Rochester this fall. “Charter house is participating in the Walk for Alzheimer’s on October 4th, put on by the Alzheimer’s Association, and we wanted to raise funds and a way to do that is through a lemonade and cake-pop stand that we came up with,” said Aimalicia Staub, the Charter House’s director of marketing.
