Roper St. Francis Healthcare opens new Palmetto Market at Berkeley Hospital
Posted: 09/08/2025Roper St. Francis Healthcare has opened its second Palmetto Market, a café and retail shop featuring Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology, inside the Medical Office Building at Roper St. Francis Berkeley Hospital at 100 Callen Blvd. in the Summerville area of Berkeley County. Roper St. Francis Healthcare partnered with Morrison Healthcare to stock the store with locally prepared foods, beverages, flowers, gifts, Roper St. Francis Healthcare-branded merchandise and a full-service Starbucks. Barista-made drinks will be available from 6 a.m.-2 p.m. daily. [more]

New Research Addresses Food Insecurity Through Medically Tailored Meals
Posted: 08/26/2025According to the USDA, 12.8% of US households—about 17 million—experienced food insecurity in 2022, up from 10.2% in 2021. To address this issue, Cleveland Clinic and Morrison Healthcare collaborated on a study assessing impact and feasibility of medically tailored meals (MTMs). The study provided personalized meals to meet the therapeutic needs of patients with obesity, diabetes, and other conditions. It follows the launch of the first Palmetto Market at Bon Secours St. Francis in June. Both locations are powered by an Artificial Intelligence (AI) driven, cashier-less checkout system. [more]

Baptist Health Employee Retires After 56 Years
Posted: 08/08/2025It’s a rarity these days for someone to stay at a single job for decades, but one Montgomery hospital employee retired Thursday after spending nearly six at Baptist Medical Center South. Jennie Cannon has worked in the hospital cafeteria for 56 years. She says she will miss seeing the faces of her fellow staff members, but said it was time to go for a change of pace. [more]
