Emergency Department Impact Project at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh

The Emergency Department will continue to serve as health care’s front door as ambulatory access challenges and poor chronic disease management are prevalent. The growth of high-acuity emergent visits creates a more complex ED patient mix, leading to longer lengths of stay, heightened demand for specialist care and surgical services, and increased IP admissions. The ED Impact Project initiative meets these patients and our clinical caregivers where they are, with quality and accessible food options that help promote healing in a fast-paced environment.

→ Introduced reheatable and chilled meals to pantry stock

→ Serving meal on 9” disposable on induction base rather than Styrofoam

→ Production – 10 hours / week, in current workflows
